Riverwalk Runway
There are few places I find homier than this beautiful Alamo City. San Antonio offers all the luxury of a metropolis but with a small town twist and the friendliest folks. It seems everyone knows everyone and parking is never an issue. But the city is always on point with the latest fashion and food trends.
I’ve had the pleasure of living walking distance from the Riverwalk for the past year and try to get out each evening to enjoy all it has to offer. Because I spend so much time on the river, I thought it would be perfect to shoot my favorite June looks here with the Riverwalk as my runway. With the summer heat comes lots of fun things to do, so having a lightweight and appropriate outfit is a must in Texas! Most places accessible from the river are the kinds of destinations you want to dress up for whether it is a night out at Paramour or to wander through the weekly Farmer’s Market at the Pearl. The path is sprinkled with restaurants, bars, museums, riverboats, bat bridges and even a hidden grotto! I love being able to view historic landmarks juxtaposed by the latest restaurant or mural. Living near the Historic Pearl has made me realize how quick San Antonio is to welcome new businesses and visitors alike.
So I have put together three looks I thought were perfect to combat the urge to throw on shorts and a t-shirt but still be cool while strolling along the river. I have also included a short list of my favorite places on the Riverwalk in case you need some inspiration to get out and explore.
My first look was a striped off-the-shoulder blouse with a ruffled beige skirt. I accessorized it with my Elaine Turner “Shelly in Snake” bag which is the perfect sized bag for summer travels. It’s big enough to fit my necessities (and a few other not-so-necessary items) but doesn’t take over my entire side like some of my favorite winter totes do. I also wore my Daniel Wellington petite watch and my new favorite stackable rings.
My second outfit is what I call my modern day “Belle” look. It reminds me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast when she is singing in the hill tops. This romper is super lightweight and doesn’t have any uncomfortable elastic on your waist. Instead it has a drawstring you can adjust to whatever size you prefer. I really love the length of the shorts and that I can pair a variety of blouses underneath to change it up. I also wore an oversized boho necklace from Anthropologie to break up the solid navy romper.
My final look was a classic white off-the-shoulder dress that can easily transition from day to night if you find yourself spending more time on the river than you expected. Which is exactly what happened when I wore this dress. I had meandered into the Pearl and found myself at Green Vegetarian Cuisine with my two best friends. If you are looking for a healthy and delicious spot in the area, this is the place. I had the Mediterranean Bowl and couldn’t get enough of their yummy humus and falafel patties. I felt perfectly in place inside the colorful restaurant with my floral scarf headband and orange Alejandra Aspillaga earrings.
I hope you all get a chance to explore a little more of the city this summer and can try out the Riverwalk as your own personal runway!
Cheers from the heart of Texas,
My Favorite Things to do on The Riverwalk:
• Buying fresh flowers and homemade sodas at the Pearl Farmer’s Market which is open every Saturday and Sunday morning.
• Walking under the dreamlike grotto waterfall to admire the Faux Bois (false wood) passageways and find the hidden faces by local artist Carlos Cortes.
• Viewing downtown from Paramour’s rooftop seating
• Waiting for the giant school of fish to light up under the I-35 overpass at night
